శ్రీ లక్ష్మిచెన్నకేశవ దేవాలయం మార్కాపురం

11వ శతాబ్దం కాలానికి చెందిన శ్రీ లక్ష్మిచెన్నకేశవ దేవాలయం ఎంతో పురాతనమైన దేవాలయం. పలనాటి ప్రాంత రాజుల పరిపాలనలోవున్న ఈదేవాలయంలోని ఆలయ మండపాలను బ్రహ్మానాయుడు నిర్మించాడు. ఈ ఆలయం లో శ్రీ చెన్న కేశవ స్వామి మూల వీరట్టు శంకు చక్ర ,కొఉమదిలథొ పాటు ,అది శేషుని ఆయుధంగా ధరించి ఉండటం ప్రత్యేకత . మూల వీరాట్టుకు ఇరు వైపులా శ్రీదేవి ,భూదేవి విగ్రహాలు , కుడివైపు మార్కండేయ మహర్షి ,ఎడమ వైపు మరికా మారకులు అనే దంపతులు విగ్రహాలు ఉన్నాయి . ఈ మరిక మరకుల  పేరుతో వెలసిన మారికపురం కాలక్రమం లో మార్కాపురంగా మారింది అని చెబుతారు .

Markapuram is a popular piligrim destination because of the Sri Lakshmi Chennakesava Swamy temple , built by the Vijayanagar rulers between 1405-1459 A.D. Apart from magnificently sculptured gopurams , the temple has a beautiful 40-pillered mandapam with carvings of Krishna , Anjaneya , Garuda , Lakshmi &Vigneshwara with their respective vahanas. In the Kalyana Mandapam there are 6 musical pillars that produce the 7 musical notes when tapped. The unique feature of the temple is that every year , from 16th December to 14th January , the sun’s rays at dawn enter the sanctum sanctorm , through specially placed windows , and fall at the feet of the deity. An incredible architectural feat that speaks volumes of the expertise of the artisans of the age.
